A renovation for the family to enjoy theirhome to the fullest until the child is in need of one’s own room.

A full gut renovation of my own home. We took acondominium unit and reconfigured it to a spacious one-room layout: living room, dining room and kitchen. This will allow the entire family to enjoy time together for the next decade before the child is in need of a separate bedroom.

The master bedroom areais configured for privacy, that it is only visible from the farthest end of the unit. To create an open ambience throughout and to emphasize the character of the exposed concrete, thepartition walls are notconnected to the ceiling.

No plasticfixturesare used.The simplicity of organic materials, the warmth of wood, the texture of plaster, and the ineffable quality of long-standing concrete, make for a timeless place.

As an architect, it is my dream to design and build a house for my family. Until that day arrives I reflected how our familywould spend time in ahome for the next 10 years. I envisionedmaking the most of the communal space that would always be used by eliminatingthe rooms that were not essential. The renovation was realized in this way.
